My girlfriend is having lower back pain really bad. She says is on the opposite side of her belly button. She just started birth control this month and her period started yesterday. She thinks it may be dehydration? What could be causing this? She’s also having pain with deep breaths.

Its really bad. She says it hurts to turn.

sounds like normal period pains to me. i get lower back pain when i’m on it. where is the pain with deep breaths?

The doc says get another MRI and the report has things to say about every joint from T12 to S-1 old tear here, bulge, old bulge, old ruptures and yes I have some pain but am taking little for it. The therapist says Mucles can make it all better. Doctors have been there for me for thirty years but now they say where do we start. Do people just fix the worst thing and wait for the next? When do you give up and do disability?

What are "Mucles" ?
If the MRI is not expensive, it can’t hurt to know what may be causing the pain.

If your problem can’t be detected, try the following:
1. Ask your Doctor to measure both your legs from your hip to your heel to make sure both legs are of equal length. A one-half inch difference can cause chronic back pain.
2. Lose weight.
3. Avoid bending over and lifting anything for a few weeks to see if this helps. If your work requires you to lift things do it with your knees bent and lift with your legs.
4. Don’t slouch in chairs, couches or seats.
5. Buy a very firm mattress. If necessary sleep on the floor.
6. Sleep on you side instead of your stomach or back.
7. Walk a mile a day.
8. Try mild and short (in height) leg lifts. AVOID sit-ups. Start one leg at a time. If no problems result, try both legs. Start with 4 or 5 lifts a day working up to a dozen over a few weeks. This will strengthen your back if you do it every day. Stop these exercises if you feel any pain or pain returns at night.
9. Consider acupuncture from a qualified person to see if this relieves your pain. If it does help start items 8 and 9 SLOWLY to build up the strength of your back muscles.

Do some research on back exercises on the Internet.

I’ve been struggling lately with lower back pain, whenever I stand up for any period of time (10 minutes plus), and especially when I walk. I think maybe I’ve strained the muscles in my lower back, however I cannot simply just stop doing my job which involves a lot of bending over (hold the puns please :P )… so how do I reduce lower back pain through treatment or exercise? :)

Believe it or not, you need to strengthen your abs. Having a strong core helps alleviate back pain.

im 19 and i have had chronic back pain for 3 years now and its getting worse all the time. im constantly weak and my hips and knees also hurt a lot especially when im walking around and going up stairs etc.

i have to take tramadol, co codermol 30/500 and diclofenac sodium at the maximum dosage every day and they make me really sick

i have been through both physio and hydrotherapy and its done nothing for me…even made it worse and when i went to see the rhumatologist she sent me back to physio. she said that she thinks that my spine at the bottom is more curved than it should be.

She doesnt want me to have pain killing injections because they only offer short term relief

my bloods were normal, as was my mri scan

is there anything else i can try to help ease the pain?

Have you tried ESI’s(Epidural Steroid Injections)? I have had them numerous times for my chronic back pain. They are given by an anesthesiologist and usually your pain management doctor prescribes them. You can choose to either have them done in office, or go to a surgery center and have some mild anesthesia that will make you comfortable for the procedure, but not "put you under". They work for me and last about 3 months at the most.

You should ask your pain management doc about them.

Thermotex PLATINUM HEAT PAD = PAIN RELIEF GUARANTEED

At 17″ x 15″, the Thermotex Platinum Heating Pad is designed with versatility in mind. The Platinum Heating Pad utilizes 35 watts to power its three heating elements, and the strength and flexibility of these elements combined with its adjustable straps allows it to be used on almost anywhere on the body. The Platinum Heating Pad is strong enough to penetrate the thick muscles of the back, yet can be applied to more focused areas such as the shoulders, legs, knees, ankles, and wrists. Similar to technology used in a hot cold therapy pack, this infrared heating pad will relieve you of various maladies including muscle spasms, joint stiffness, and tendonitis pain. However, unlike a lot of hot cold therapy pack products, the Platinum Heating Pad won’t burn or dehydrate the skin. Thermotex products have many advantages over other pain relief products, in that they utilize infrared heating technology to reduce pain. This heating system penetrates deep into the tissues of the body through a process called conversion, which allows heat to transfer from the pad to your skin without conduction through the air. Case studies have been conducted with the infrared system of the Platinum Heating Pad, where users applied the pad to back pain and succeeded in eliminating the pain after three half-hour treatments over the course of a week. These results were facilitated by an increase in the diameter of blood vessels, which allowed for more oxygen to be supplied to the afflicted tissue and removed toxins with greater efficiency. As a result, the users experienced a relief from pain. Pain medication may provide temporary relief, but by inhibiting vital systems in the body one runs the risk of chemical dependence. The Thermotex Platinum Heating Pad is a safe, non-addictive solution to many forms of pain, with absolutely no side effects.
